Not-for-profit and community service lawyers

Our lawyers have served on the boards and committees of numerous social and community services organisations. We can provide legal education, advice and specialist legal counsel across the ‘people’ part of your operations.

Our not-for-profit and community service lawyers have a genuine understanding of NFP/CS organisations and their increasingly complex legislative environment.

We work with charities, professional/industry bodies, crisis response organisations, foundations and other community organisations. We can serve organisations across all states and territories throughout Australia.

How we help

  • Organisational restructures
  • Mergers and collaborations
  • Governance, helping boards and management function more effectively

Our recent work in social & community services

  • Provided advice on applicable award coverage and classifications under the Social, Community Services, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010. Management have appreciated the clarity, and practical advice on meeting the award obligations.
  • Provided advice on restructuring and redundancy – including communications to staff, strategic planning, and communication with unions. This staff was appreciative of the legal and practical insight we provided to ensure that the restructure and setting up of new operations ran smoothly, and allowed managers to focus on the management side – and “get back to what they do best”
  • Advised on necessary base rates of pay and allowances, including obligations to provide a first aid allowance to workers. This client expressed they were very appreciative of the support and clarity we gave to obligations under complex and difficult EBAs and Awards
  • Produced a comprehensive procurement policy for procurement of office and large business purchases

I was so impressed with Susanna and the fact she jumped straight in to the job after our initial conversation – even to the point of responding late at night to ensure my client contract could be expedited. I felt completely comfortable discussing the circumstances of my business and needs, and I will be coming back to her for assistance in creating a new company contract very shortly.
